Tillamook Oregon

We arrived here at the RV park in Tillamook on Sunday in time to catch the afternoon football game. The sites here are slanted down at the rear so the back end of the RV has to be raised to level the unit. The worst cast scenario. It does  have full hookups and 50amps.

After setting up we drove back into town to Jayne’s, one of Debbie’s favorite quilt shops. A stop at Fred Myers and back to the Horizon.

The next afternoon we drove a few mile back up the coast to the Pirates Cove restaurant.

Trip to Town (Pahrump, NV)

Sunday, April 11th, we drove into town where there a Quilt show was in progress, what else?

We stopped for a good lunch.

On the way back to the resort we stopped at Smith’s market. Next door a carnival was in progress. The flags flying are not part of the carnival but displayed by Pahrump businesses.

The next day there were rain showers in the area but they missed the resort.

Broken Sewing Machine

Debbie broke her sewing machine right in the middle of a quilt. Being mechanical I took a look but the sewing machine as it turned out is as mysterious as is quilting. Of course these things always happen on a Sunday. Can you say football? I found a repair shop nearby in Everett and promised to transport broken machine and it’s pouting operator to the shop first thing Monday morning. In the meantime I called expecting to get a recording telling me when they open. Imagine my surprise when a person answered the phone and advised they would be open for another hour and a half!

Here we are just 30 minutes or so later at the repair shop.

For some reason I ended up in the shop with Debbie, oh I remember I had to carry the one ton machine in. They told her a week to repair. Oh no! Not a week without a sewing machine and she’s in the middle of a project! Debbie didn’t think they would, but I asked anyway, if they had a loaner she could use. Much to her surprise they gave us one! She’s back in business and not in my business!

On the way back to the car she spotted a fabric store. I didn’t follow.

Solvang

This morning we headed a few miles over to Sovang, a Danish replica village. Our first stop though was a quilt store. It must have been a good store because Debbie came back to the car with a big bag of material.

Fortune was with us because when we arrived in Solvang we found a parking place right away, centrally located and in the shade! That may not sound like a big deal but the tourists were out in droves and although it's only around 74 degrees the car gets pretty hot in the sun.

After walking all over the village, we stopped for lunch at the Red Viking. We both had their Danish smorgasbord. I even tried the pickled herring! Not so bad but I didn't go back for seconds.
We had a nice leisurely lunch, window shopped some more and decided to return to the rig for a nap. On the way back I notice a unique town clock and grabbed a picture. Although it's not a steam clock it was interesting.

This morning we are heading to Emerald Desert RV in Palm Desert if we're not stuck in the mud here. Last night I washed the windows and decided to fill the water tank. I turned on the fill and because it fills slowly I started doing other things. Then I walked the garbage to the dumpster and took Ty along. Ty wanted to do some exploring so I went with him. I was just after nightfall and very quite. I kept hearing water quietly making a babbling sound and surmised it was the underground system watering the lawn. On our way back I realized the water I was hearing was my water tank over flowing. The site is crushed rock with lawn on each side and its now muddy crushed rock. Maybe frozen this morning!

Beverly Beach State Park

We are here for a second night at Beverly Beach State Park in our next camp site. This is a picture of our new site which is next to our old site. It stopped raining and is brighter than yesterday. Yes it is a different site.

Ty wonders how in the world that RV ever got in that small site

This site was a lot tighter that the one last night but with the help of several nearby campers I got it in without wrecking the new paint.

This afternoon we went to the Coast Aquarium and after stopped for a late lunch George's Grill which had a panoramic view of the ocean. The lunch was spectacular all so. We both had the best Clam Chowder ever. We also both had a special, "Seafood Gratin" that was delicious. It had fish, crab, scallops and other things in a white sauce.

We did manage to find a quilt shop on the way back to our camp site.


Tomorrow we head on down to Coos Bay.

Quilts finished

It looks like we will be late for Thanksgiving this year. If we are able to pickup the rig on Friday, we will need to return to Port Susan to put all our stuff back into the basement storage. Then we're into the weekend and will probably wait until Monday to avoid traffic. Then cutting over to the coast will make the trip home a few days longer.

Oregon law, require all vehicles to carry snow chains after the first of November whether they're needed or not when traveling on highways that go over mountain passes. We decided to cut over to the coast to stay law abiding and still avoid the hassle of buying and carrying chains. There are a couple of highways to the coast that don't have chain requirement and the one out of Salem, OR is where we plan to turn west .

On our walk last night Ty decided to jump up on top of a three foot tall tree stump. I guess predicaments like this is where the saying "Look before you leap" may come from.

Ouch!

This is the Garden Gate quilt Debbie has been working on for a while. The gate design is from a photo of the gated entrance to the apartments in Florence, Italy where Blake stayed during his three month study abroad program. This is the second one after a practice. It has taken a while because of the amount of hand work required.

I didn't think it had been raining this much but Debbie also finished this quilt. I'm glad we have dual pane windows so condensation hasn't been a problem.
