Before leaving Seven Feather RV Resort, we took the shuttle from the park to the Casino for breakfast at the restaurant inside.

Later, leaving the park we stopped at the truck stop deli and bought a classic sub sandwich for lunch later on the road.

June 21, 2017 - Canyonville OR - Seven Feathers

The day started off hot, 90 degrees as we left. And cooled down as we proceeded north. Stopped at Randolph E. Collier Rest Area for lunch. As we were leaving I turned right at the exit which was back toward and under the freeway but was the wrong way. Was able to make a TIGHT u-turn to go back.

When we arrive at Seven Feathers, we stopped for gas before going up to the campground. The truckstop now has two RV fuel islands.

This morning the Elks restaurant was serving breakfast so we walked over and enjoyed a great breakfast.

June 14, Tuesday - Collier Memorial State Park, Oregon

We ran down to Klamath Falls to Nibbley's Cafe for lunch today.  On the way down, we drove through Chiloquin so Debbie could stop at the Post Office to drop a birthday card in the mail. The businesses in town were mostly closed or boarded up but the post office was open and there was a big hardware store that was open and look new. It was an average lunch but the 45 minute wait for food was way above average.

After lunch we walk when walked around the campground she only attracted a few mosquitoes. . Debbie took a rest at the amphitheater. 

Tomorrow morning we'll be heading on north to the Jefferson Co. Fairgrounds in Madras, OR

June 12, Sunday - Redding, CA
We left home today heading to Port Susan. We’re taking the scenic  route up Interstate 5 to Redding for a night and then on to the US 97 turnoff.

We left Concord about 10:30 and arrived at the Redding Elks about 2:30. There were only five spaces left and the host advised the sites on the south side got afternoon shade so we parked in south side, space 8, because it was really hot, around 97 degrees, and we were getting warm in the motorhome, even with the air conditioning running. I hopped out and connected the electricity to keep it running and we went up to the bar to pay our 25 dollars for the night. Since it was cool inside the lodge we had a bloody Mary and then a second one as the bar tender said we received a free drink on our first night, yea! We stalled until we thought the shade should be shading our motorhome but when we returned the shade was nowhere close. It extremely warm inside and we suffered until bed time and we finally fell asleep. The shade never made it to the south row of motorhome. He seemed like such a friendly, kindly old man.

June 13, Monday - Collier Memorial State Park, Oregon
This morning we were up early. I went out and washed the windshield. The temperature is already 75 degrees at 9 am and hot in the sun. We got off about 10:30. We stopped in Klamath Falls  with the fuel gauge on half full  and filled up in the RV lanes at the Pilot Truck Stop north of town.

Although information on the Collier Memorial State Park reservation stated check in was 4 pm and after, we arrive around 3 pm and had no problem. Site B24 was a pull through, turn out, and turned out to be prefect.   Because of the trees we couldn’t connect with the satellite and we’re too remote to receive any TV signals……..so we’re going cold turkey.

Phoenix, OR–Jun 26, 2014–Its Fixed

HURRAY

The jacks are fixed, so far anyway. Glen from Central Point RV Center called this morning to let us know the circuit board had come in. We got the rig ready to roll, including picking up the leveling blocks we were forced to buy, and dropped off the Horizon at the shop.

We stopped at the Black Bear Restaurant for breakfast. It was identical to the one in Walnut Creek, the menu, the food and service, which was good. After breakfast we decided to drive south to Talent. Debbie found an “antique” store and spent more time than money.

While driving around we went by the Sno-Cat factory in Medford, Oregon.  They were originally made in a factory in Grass Valley, California, where the first production line was established, before moving to Oregon.

New Sno-Cats lined up and ready to go.  The overcast sky gave way to rain a few hours later.

Just before noon Glen called and let us know the Horizon was ready.  We pick it up and came back to our spot at Holiday RV. The jacks worked great.

Debbie brought in a box of coffee and left the empty box on the front seat. It proved too tempting to Ty.

 

We paid for a week beginning yesterday so we’ll stay here until next week and give the jack a good work out before we move on.

Phoenix, OR–Jun 21, 2014–Crater Lake

The Crater Lake web site said the weather was going to be clear today so we decided on a visit.  From our RV park its about an hour and a half drive. Although its been years since either Deb or I had been to the lake, it looked the same.

We walked along the rim path and a Clark’s Nutcracker landed next to usjust off the trail.

We left the path to walk over to the Crater Lake Lodge to see what their lunch menu look like.  It look expensive with a salad at $11 and salmon $34 so we decided we weren’t that hungry.  Debbie walking from the dinning room toward the gift shop.

Phoenix OR–Jun 20, 2014–Not So Bad

We are waiting for a circuit board to be fabricated by HWH which should end our leveling jack problem. They don’t work.

This morning we moved from our level site C18 to an un-level site C3.  We didn’t want to move but it turned out this is a very good spot. Has a great view out the front. Its shadier with more trees and Ty like the view better too.

Ty is staying near the front door, he wants to go back across the drive where he’s found some kind of varmint hole that require watching.

I went out and purchased some leveling blocks and then spent a half hour or longer using them to level the motorhome. I should have grabbed one of the 5th wheel trailer guys to lend a hand.  Finally got it fairly level. Anxious to get our hydraulics working.

Tomorrow we’re driving over to Crater Lake.

Phoenix, OR–Jun 18, 2014–Day 2

Still no fix for the jacks. We took the MH up to Central Point RV this morning only to learn the master mechanic was called away for jury duty. Geez will we ever get these jacks working?  I added another day to our stay at the RV park.

Around 11 o’clock Glenn the master called and said he was back. He narrowly avoided being selected for the alternate jury pool. The pool was filled by the person just ahead of him in the line. Whew!

Debbie, I and Ty used or day to explore the mining town of Jacksonville. This is a sample of the architecture in the small town.

We couldn’t find a parking place in the shade to leave Ty, so we just drove around the town.  Afterward we went back to the RV park and hung out on the lawn next to Bear Creek.

Ty found a varmint in a hole in the lawn and made a pounce, but missed.

Around 4:30 we drove back to Central Point and met Glen.  He had found a loose bolt on the motor but it was not the jack problem. He was still waiting for a call back from HWH for help in the diagnosis. If they call back tomorrow, and they have the part needing in stock, and can they get it overnighted, and Glen can get the part install Friday, we may be back on our way Saturday.  That’s the best case scenario, so tomorrow I am going up to the office to see if I can change our to the weekly rate.

Medford, OR–Jun 17, 2014

We arrived at the Holiday RV Park in Phoenix, OR early afternoon. Assigned space C17 we found it was not very level so we moved over to C18 and were almost able to get completely level. Yes the jacks are still not working. They will probable work fine tomorrow at the RV shop!  The weather here is on the cool side and expected to drop down to the mid forties overnight.

Tomorrow it into the shop for the third time for the HWH to be repaired, this time by a manufacturer’s certified master service center.  If this doesn’t work then I’ll be heading to the factory in Iowa and camping out until they get them working.

We’ve always looked at checking out Crater Lake as we went by on one side or the other so if the repair schedule works out we will take a day trip over from here.

Brookings November 2, 2013

I missed a couple of posts, Coos Bay and Brookings. This post catches up.

Just staying one night here at the Brookings Elks. Only offers 30 amp and no sewer for eighteen dollars a night. A dollar more than we paid at the Mill Casino RV Park. This year the lot was a lot fuller than previous years.

The site is not quite level and we are listing to the left so we only put out the right front slide at first. The leveling jack are still not working.  They did work at our last stop, Coos Bay. Just love intermittent problems.  I decided to try some blocks on the left side and then it was listing to the right but a  little bit less and we were able to put the rest of the slides out.

Coos Bay Oct 31–Nov 1

I missed a couple of blogs on our way down the coast. This is the first one was this one and the other was Brookings.

Here in Coos Bay at one of our favorite RV parks ‘The Mill Casino RV Park’. We are fairly level without the leveling jacks which are refusing to go down. Curiously, the slides all work and they are in the same hydraulic system. 

The highlight of our stop here was finding a great restaurant ‘Little Italy’. We stopped by for lunch, which was wonderful, so we went back for dinner. The chief-owner came out and told us the history of his restaurant which started out in the San Francisco bay area.

Cape Disappointment 10/21–10/23 2013

Monday, 10/21/13

We drove into Shelton this morning to meet Jim and Helene downtown at the Suzan restaurant for breakfast. We had an excellent breakfast here last year and were anxious to share it with them. It was very good again.

We made it back to Little Creek Casino in time to get on the road around noon.  Foggy and overcast which cleared and became sunny by the time we arrived at our site 36, in Cape Disappointment State Park at around 2:30pm . Easy site to get into and good satellite view but no Wi-Fi signal and no cell phone.  Ty needed out so Debbie and I took him on a walk to the beach. It’s a long way, about an hour there and back. He decided to lie down on the way home. I guess he tired out and he was happy to be carried the rest of the way back to camp.

Tuesday, 10/22/13

Today we drove over to Warrenton across the bridge from Astoria to get tires for the Jeep. Les Schwab questioned why I wanted Michelins, they don’t carry them, and priced some Toyo’s at around 950 dollars.  We then stopped at Costco and ended up buying a set of Michelins for 650 dollars. We were going to eat lunch over in Astoria at the Brewery but we settled for a $1.50 hot dog and coke at Costco while they installed the tires. 

Wednesday, 1/23/13

Debbie pulled out and set up the sewing machine last night and was hard at work this morning completing a table runner for the Thanksgiving Holidays. 

For lunch we headed up to Long Beach to the Lost Roo for some fish tacos but it was closed for a private event so we regrouped and stopped at the quilt store instead where Deb picked up some fabric for the back of her “one hexagon piece of all my fabric” quilt.  We stopped at Goody Restaurant for lunch. We both had fish and chips. They were in the top five best. I think Goody’s is our new lunch stop in Long Beach.

Coos Bay to Brookings

We are at the The Mill Casino RV park where we stopped last year. Our site is in the front row facing part of Coos Bay.  Where we are parked is just down from the Coast Guard Station. Looking  through the front windows We can watch tugs moving barges and freighter up and down the bay.  A large Coast Guard buoy tender slowly went by on its way out to sea.

We enjoyed full hookups with 5oamps. The park is level, however the sites for some reason are high in the center and lower at each end and it took two blocks in front to level the coach .  I guess it works for 5th wheels and trailers but not so much for motorhomes.

From here we’re traveling down to Brookings.

We arrived at the Brookings Elks a little afternoon. It rained on us most of the way to Brookings and was lightly raining when we arrived.

The sites here are level with water and 30amp electric. Besides the two pull-through sites, there are several back in sites. Located a mile or so from town, its very quite here unless the Elks are gathering. Satellite has a clear view. Didn’t try the off-the-air reception, but I would think it would be good here also

Florence Oregon

We’re at one of our favorite Elks campground just outside of Florence. This RV park is located in a rustic wooded area. They also have a “RV park” in town on the parking lot next to the lodge. We’re in space 8. The sites have EW, 50amps, cable TV and Wifi. The cable TV at our site was poor. No cell signal.

While Ty and I were walking around the campground we came upon a few deer also walking around.

We went out for dinner and decided to try out the Maple St Grille. The outside looked like a really large restaurant but it only occupies a small part of the lower front. About six or so tables. Debbie tried tried the crab cakes and I had a sandwich. We enjoyed talking with the owner but the food wasn’t very good. 

Tillamook Oregon

We arrived here at the RV park in Tillamook on Sunday in time to catch the afternoon football game. The sites here are slanted down at the rear so the back end of the RV has to be raised to level the unit. The worst cast scenario. It does  have full hookups and 50amps.

After setting up we drove back into town to Jayne’s, one of Debbie’s favorite quilt shops. A stop at Fred Myers and back to the Horizon.

The next afternoon we drove a few mile back up the coast to the Pirates Cove restaurant.

Warrenton, OR

Today we drove through Anacortes to Warrenton to look for a “dive” or restaurant that Darryl and Flavia  took us to last year.  As I remembered it served really good sandwiches and burgers. We ended up driving right to it, Buoy9.

We both had a cup of clam chowder which was great and I had a cheese burger while Debbie tried their BLT.

Astoria, OR 2012

Today we are again going out for lunch but instead of the Rogue Brew House that we usually have to eat at,

we’re going to look for a lunch stand or cart that is suppose to be located across from the Maritime State Museum. I read a review somewhere about it and then our camping neighbor mentioned it while we were visiting and said we had to try it. We missed it the first time by, it is located across from the Maritime Museum but a block over on the other side of an open lot.

The lunch stand or cart turned out to be a historic Columbia River fishing boat. At one time these boats were used to fish for Salmon and Sturgeon. We shared a five piece order for ten dollars. They were very good but the fish was frozen so it could have been better but the batter was very good.
Later we stopped at a Goodwill Super Store where Debbie found a piece of Corning Ware. Its older and hard to find, as its not being made any longer. Its special because it can be used on the stove top or the oven. Apparently the new Corning Ware can’t be used on the stove top.

Ty thought he needed a walk when we returned. We took him down to the beach which is loaded with driftwood at the top edge. He walked along the edge of the driftwood for a long while and he was happy to see his Horizon when we returned.

Seven Feathers Canyonville, OR 2012

I woke up around 5:45am this morning to banging and clanking by our neighbors on each side getting their 5th wheels connected. What a racket! Normally I can go back to sleep until 7 – 7:30. I tried but finally had to get up.

I punched the coffee pot button that Debbie had setup last night. We had a leisurely morning. I made oatmeal and Debbie ate half a hot dog left over from last night’s dinner.

I walked the garbage to the dumpster around 9am. Boy is it hot already. Checking the temperature its already 84 degrees. We had left the motorhome slides in to reduce the volume inside that the air conditioner had to cool, so getting off this morning was quick and easy. Remember it was 105 yesterday.  

Seven Feather’s office. We’ve been here before and I’ve taken a lot of pictures for previous posting but the park is so pretty and well maintained I  had to take some more.

We arrived here around 3:00pm and pulled into the the truck stop islands to fuel up.  We then headed up to the park. When I called last night from Redding, they only had back in spaces which is ok, but since we were only staying one night I preferred a pull through so I didn’t have to disconnect the Jeep.  I ask him to check again and he found a pull through for us.

The pool and spa are indoors.  We stopped here a few days before the grand opening and it was beautiful. Now years later the only change I can see it the trees are bigger and they don’t wash your windshield anymore.

Travel Day to Tillamook, OR

Today we’re leaving our Washington State Park camp site in Cape Disappointment and heading to the Elk’s RV Park in Tillamook. We love this park in the trees and right next to the ocean. It has full hookups with 50 amps. The sites are paved, level and easy to back into.  No WIFI and cell service. Satellite service is ok if you choose the right site. We were in site 7 with ok service.

Ty is over in the edge of our site hunting. He liked this site also.

We arrived in Tillamook at the Elks RV park just afternoon. The park is about 5 miles south of town and is fairly new. Each site had full hookups about half with 50 amp the rest with 30 amp. The sites are crushed rock and not very level.  Separated by a green lawn area. We had good cell and satellite service here.  We are also the only campers here.
