We reluctantly left Hoodsport after a great visit with Jim and Helene heading down Hwy 101 toward Cape Disappointment State Park (formerly Fort Canby State Park) a few hours away. The park’s two names were confusing. We didn’t know if there were two parks next to each other or what the situation was. We found that some maps and resources we looked at used one name and other used the other name. Anyway we knew to get to one of the campgrounds, we needed to go through a small community of Ilwaco so off we went. Everything was fine until we came upon this sign post.
As we approached Ilwaco we came across this sign which was as schizophrenic as our planning materials. I kept following my GPS which, in a lot of cases. can be a big mistake but in this case we arrived at the park entrance.
Signs leading to the park and park literature also use the new name and some used still used the old name. We determined that it was one park with a new name and an old name and both names are stilled being used.
The campground sites are laid out like spokes on a wheel so that maximum space exist between sites.
The day was overcast and drizzling. The wind was up and so was Ty the cat who wanted to get out and explore.
Some how he knows when we stop for fuel or food or just resting and he continues to nap. But when we stop at a campground he is up and at ‘em and need to get out.
The Horizon is in the back ground as we walk with Ty on the trail from our site.
There are a lot of signs and pamphlets warning not to eat the mushrooms. We were months away from wildflowers season but we were in the height of the mushroom season.
Here are some of them.
Next we continue down the trail with Ty to the Beach.
